Invasive plants workshop August 10
COUNTY — Join Chad Hammer, Invasive Plant Biologist with the Maine Natural Areas Program, to learn about combatting invasive plants! This workshop, coordinated by Oxford County Soil & Water Conservation District will be held at the Hiram Arts Center on August 10 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. In this workshop, you’ll learn to identify and combat common invasive plants such as Japanese knotweed, barberry, and bittersweet, that threaten our local ecosystems. We’ll start with an engaging classroom session to cover the characteristics and impacts of these invaders. Then we will gear up and travel 10 minutes away for some hands-on identification and removal of the plants we have learned about.
Oxford County town institutes immediate 'boil water' order
NORWAY, Maine — The Oxford County town of Norway has issued an immediate "boil water" order, citing a water main break on Radcliff Street. A notice posted on the town's Facebook page specified that "due to the possibility of unsafe water" residents in the Norway Water District should boil water intended to be consumed for at least one minute at a rolling boil.
Man dies after suffering medical event after jumping into Moose Pond
DENMARK, Maine — A man has died despite lifesaving efforts after he suffered an apparent medical event on Moose Pond Sunday. At approximately 4:15 p.m., Oxford County and Cumberland County sheriff's deputies, local police, and EMS services responded to a witnessed medical emergency in the water on Moose Pond near Lochmont Drive in Denmark, according to a news release from the Oxford County Sheriff's Office.
