OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) — The Regional Water Resource Agency in Owensboro hosted two rain barrel making workshops. The agency partnered with the Daviess County Cooperative Extension to make it happen.

About 50 people learned how to use, manage and construct a rain barrel. For a $40 fee, each household was able to build one rain barrel.

Officials say for every inch of rainfall about 26 gallons of roof water can be collected.

One person says she’s wanted a rain barrel for her yard work.

“I have extensive gardening in my yard everywhere , and I’d like to not be running up my water bill up to water them all summer,” says Lisa Leonard, a workshop attendee.

Leonard says the process was easier than imagined.
