    Owatonna girls golf wins home quad; boys finish 3rd in Century quad

    Big 9 Conference golf was in full swing Tuesday, as the Owatonna boys and girls golf teams competed against Rochester Century, Faribault and Red Wing in a pair of quad meets.

    The girls team hosted the Panthers, Falcons and Wingers at the Owatonna Country Club and finished first overall with a team-low 366. The boys were hosted by Century and finished third overall with a 317 at the Eastwood Golf Course.

    Girls Golf: Owatonna 366, Red Wing 390, Faribault 423, Century 448

    The girls team-low score was powered by three top five scores, which starts with sophomore Carmen Jirele and Paige Thompson recording the only scores of the day in the 70s and 80s.

    Jirele finished first overall with a low 78 after shooting for par six times on the front nine and on the back nine to finish six over on the day. Thompson finished second overall by shooting an 88 with five pars and one birdie.

    Danika Kaytor finished in fifth overall with a 96 while shooting for par three times. Junior Anna Mollenhauer rounded out the top four by shooting a 104 to finish in 11th overall.

    Freshman Ella Schuster and sophomore Brynn Andrix helped close the day out for the girls with Schuster shooting a 106 to finish in 13th place and Andrix shooting a 112 to tie Faribault’s Olivia Streefland for 18th overall.

    Boys Golf: Century 312, Red Wing 315, Owatonna 317, Faribault 320

    The boys battle in Rochester was a close one as only eight strokes separated Century’s team-low 312 and Faribault’s team-high 320.

    Senior Quinn Thompson finished as Owatonna’s top golfer as he tied Century’s Brennan Weckwerth and Red Wing’s Jacob Quade for second overall with a 74. Thompson shot for par 10 times with three birdies.

    Freshman Grady Roush was second on the team with an 80 to tie Century’s Justin Sutton for eighth overall. Roush shot for par nine times with one birdie. Seventh grader West Grimmius finished one stroke back with an 81 to tie the Century tandem of Owyn Tomminello and Boston Collins for 10th overall. Grimmius shot for par eight times with one birdie.

    Owatonna’s top four was rounded out with senior Matthew Larson in a four-way tie for 13th overall after shooting for an 82. Larson shot for par on the first four holes of the front nine and shot three birdies on the back nine.

    Senior Ben Buytaert and sophomore Mason Pelinka closed things out with Buytaert tying for 17th place with an 83 and Pelinka finishing 20th overall with an 85.
