Run for the Wall
HARTFORD — Run for the Wall, an annual motorcycle ride spanning from Ontario, California, to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. (with a three-day extension to the Middle East Conflicts Wall in Marseilles, Illinois) honors veterans, raising awareness for missing soldiers, and facilitating the healing of veterans. The annual ride makes a stop in Hartford, stopping at Amoco off Big Creek Road. Amoco reimburses gas station operators for the cost of the fuel for those participating in the ride to fill up their gas tanks. North Carolina Highway Patrol officers met the riders in Hartford to take over the escort at the North Carolina state line. Between 260 and 300 motorcycles were in the group when they stopped at Harford. They were also accompanied by support vehicles.
Travel issues expected in western suburbs as blowing dust moves into Chicago area ahead of potentially severe weather
A "significant weather alert" is in effect for several Chicago-area counties, bringing extremely hazardous travel conditions ahead of potentially severe weather in the region. Blowing dust can spark travel issues across many western suburbs, with winds of up to 45 miles per hour presenting problems, especially near fields that were recently plowed.
Memorial Day is a time to remember and honor
The Grundy County Veterans Assistance Commission has provided a list of Memorial Day events taking place over Memorial Day weekend from throughout Grundy County. Events include a parade and observance hosted by the Minooka American Legion Post 1188 starting at 10 a.m. from the Minooka Bible Church 412 N. Wabena Avenue. A memorial service will follow at Veterans Park at the corner of Mondamin and Wabena. Coal City, Diamond and Carob Hill will have a Memorial Day observance at 11:30 a.m. on Monday documented by the St. Juvin VFW Post 1336,at 305 E. Division St. in Coal City.
4 sentenced for bungled gun store burglaries
A federal judge has sentenced four people for their parts in a gun store burglary ring that tried to grab weapons from five counties in Central Illinois, including McLean. Dezmond Hardy, 23, Shaleik Ward, 20, Terrence Daniels, 23, and Erika Garner, 22, are all from Peoria. They admitted attempting and failing to break into gun stores in Bloomington, LeRoy, Lincoln, Decatur, Spring Valley, and Taylorville in August 2023.
