Emerson Hough principal and Berg Middle School nurse receive awards from NCEF
Two staff members of the Newton Community School District were recognized this month for going “above and beyond” in their respective buildings. Tara Zehr, the principal of Emerson Hough, and Jen Flake, school nurse at Berg Middle School, received the Above & Beyond Awards on April 4 and April 15, respectively, during surprise assemblies hosted by the Newton Community Educational Foundation (NCEF). They also received $500 scholarships.
Jasper County to re-line and reinforce two culvert pipes on F-48
Two culvert pipes along F-48 West in Jasper County have been approved for new, reinforced lining as opposed to an all out replacement, which the county engineer noted would be difficult. Both culverts are located along the first phase of the reconstruction project between Lambs Grove and the Baxter interchange.
Newton artist holds exhibition reflecting on process of grief after Moo’s BBQ closes
Sophie Kruger has recreated the last snapshot of the Moo’s BBQ crew the day the Newton-based restaurant closed its doors in 2022. The image has been transformed into two 4 feet by 8 feet painted murals. Over the next three weeks, the exhibit will be on display at Central College. Then it will be no more.
