Army football team isn't about to change approach vs. Air Force
Army football isn't about to re-create its offense just because Air Force is coming to town. In auto racing parlance, it's a case of "Run with what ya brung'' for Army head coach Jeff Monken and Air Force coach Troy Calhoun. Born of the same option principles, both teams like to run, and both teams defend the run pretty well, too. Recent meetings have been close contests, often coming down to the final, limited possessions. The familiarity has clearly favored the defensive players because they have seen these option basics day after day and year after year. Only twice in the past dozen meetings has the Army rushing offense surpassed its seasonal-average (minus the Air Force numbers) when facing the Falcons, including the past five years: minus-67 yards below average in 2025; minus-101 in 2024; minus-36 in 2023; minus-231 in 2022; and, minus-194 in 2021. But when your offense is firmly based on the run game and not on passing schemes that could potentially loosen up an opposing defense trying to stack the box, that's basically the hand you're dealt. "If I thought putting guys out there and spread them all across the field would help our run game, we'd

Iglesias has memorable night as Somers gets to Class A football final
LINCOLNDALE – Tristan Iglesias is going to remember this game. The senior quarterback had a hand in seven touchdowns in the last football game he’ll play on Tony DeMatteo Field, leading Somers to a 46-21 win over Harrison on Friday in a Section 1 Class A semifinal. The Tuskers move on to the championship game for the sixth year in a row and will play Clarkstown South at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13 at North Rockland High School. Iglesias ran for four touchdowns and threw for three scores. “Tristan has been unbelievable,” Somers coach Anthony DeMatteo said. “The way he extends plays when the call we make isn’t there makes all the difference. He’s so accurate on the run, so accurate in the pocket and he’s hard to bring down. Tristan is such a resilient kid and a really good leader.” The Tuskers had a string of four Section 1 championships snapped last season when they lost to Rye in the final. It would’ve been an upset had Somers won, but that knowledge didn’t lessen the sting. “No, they were a great team and they played amazing, but that loss still burns,” Iglesias said. “It’s amazing to have a
