Norse score big, win two of three
The Whitehall softball team started the week hot, outscoring Alma Center Lincoln 32-1 in a doubleheader sweep before falling to Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran. The Norse swept last week Monday’s road doubleheader by scores of 15-0 and 17-1. The team lost, 9-6, the following day at Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran.
Norse baseball team wins two of three
After a loss to start the week, the Whitehall baseball team won two games. All three contests were close as the Norse struggled at the plate in a 3-0 loss to Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran last week Monday. The team got the winning run to cross the plate in the bottom of the seventh to beat Osseo-Fairchild, 3-2, on Tuesday before it held off Alma Center Lincoln for a 5-3 win on Friday.
Norse golfers third in DC two meets
The Dairyland Conference golf season has been competitive so far as the top two teams are separated by just two points after three meets. Defending champion Cochrane-Fountain City currently has the lead with 34 points, but Alma/Pepin won a competition last week — after C-FC swept DC play last season — and sits two points back. The Whitehall golf team is third overall with 22 points after finishing as the second runner-up in two competitions last week, Eleva-Strum has 20 points followed by Augusta (12) and Independence/Gilmanton (six). I/G has had just two golfers in conference competitions so far.
I/G softball team falls to Wildcats, Beavers
The Independence/Gilmanton softball team’s losing streak reached six last week as it dropped a pair of close games. The Indees fell behind early against Blair-Taylor and couldn’t get back in the game last week Tuesday (see story elsewhere in Sports). The team took a late lead on Friday against Augusta, but the Beavers rallied for the 4-1 win.
