A beloved Granada Boulevard restaurant announced its permanent closure over the weekend.

Delcato’s Pizza and Italian Restaurant has been serving the Volusia community its indulgent selection of “home-style Italian” cuisine and New York-style pizza for over three decades. However, on Friday, the family-owned-and-operated eatery announced on social media that it had served its final slices.

“After more than 30 years serving Ormond Beach, the Delcato’s family has made the decision to close our doors,” the Facebook post read.

“We are so very grateful for the decades of loyalty, love and support that you all gave us as part of this wonderful Ormond community.”

Born from a New York City father and son duo , the local favorite, which got its start in Port Orange, has served Volusia residents an authentic array of cheesy, sauce-layered bites made from “grandma Delcato’s best recipes" made with love, noting that “Nonna wouldn't have it any other way.”

The Ormond Beach restaurant placed quality at the forefront of its menu, promising guests the use of only the finest ingredients, fresh-cut vegetables, made-fresh-daily homemade sauce and “one-of-a-kind” dough, with frequenting guests often purchasing the restaurant’s dough to use in preparation of their own bread at home, according to the eatery’s Facebook page .

With family roots planted in Brooklyn, New York, Delcato’s was undeniably loved for its authentic, New York-style pizza, but offered a variety of other dishes, including the Sicilian pie — known for its “airy, thick dough” — the ravioli, baked ziti, eggplant parmigiana, linguini with clams, and various baked Italian heroes, among other items.

Following the announcement of the restaurant's closure, loyal customers began flooding Delcato's Facebook comments with messages of both sadness and support regarding the decision.

"Heartbreaking ... best pizza ever!!!" one user said, while others commented "I'm heartbroken" and "Great place, great people, enjoy retirement."

“All of us - our family, our friends, our staff - have memories that we will cherish forever from our time serving you all,” the restaurant's Facebook post went on to say. “Thank you all for making Delcato’s a part of your lives, for making yourselves part of ours.”

Delcato’s Pizza and Italian Restaurant was located at 1474 W. Granada Blvd., suite 445, in Ormond Beach. For information, visit Facebook.com/delcatos.

Delcato’s could not immediately be reached for comment.
