Yates named new athletic director at BNL
BEDFORD – Adam Yates, who has served as an assistant athletic director for three years at Bedford North Lawrence, has been named the school’s new athletic director. Yates succeeds Jeff Callahan, who served in the position for 21 years. He is the fifth man to head the sports programs in the 50-year history of BNL, following Gil Fey, Ray Manis, Mike Short and Callahan.

Three Stars advance to track regional
BROWNSTOWN – Bedford North Lawrence advanced three athletes to the second stage of the IHSAA state tournament series during the sectional on Thursday night. BNL’s Braydon Patterson, Frank Decker and Tripp Stahl qualified for the regional at Bloomington North. The top three in each event advanced. The Stars finished sixth in the team competition with 48.5 points, while Springs Valley won the title with 128.5.
BNL’s Voigtschild wins sectional title in 800
SEYMOUR – Bedford North Lawrence freshman Paige Voigtschild won the 800-meter race during the IHSAA girls track sectional at Seymour on Wednesday night. Voigtschild won a thrilling duel with Eastern Pekin’s Katie Hauner, edging her closest competitor by a scant .03 seconds to claim the blue ribbon. Voigtschild clocked 2:32.54 while earning a ticket to the regional. The top three finishers in each event advanced to the second stage of the state tournament series at Bloomington North.
Providence spoils Senior festivities with 11-2 victory over BNL
BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence has slumped into a funk at the worst time. Even with the motivation and emotion of Senior Night, the Stars were bogged down while suffering their fourth straight loss. Providence, ranked No.10 in Class 2A, pounded out 15 hits while cruising to an 11-2 victory over BNL on Thursday night.

Marines helping Marines golf tournament set to tee off in the Shoals
A four-man golf tournament benefitting veterans is set to tee off in the Shoals on Saturday. The Marines Helping Marines Golf Tournament will be at the Cypress Lakes Golf and Tennis Club on May 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The tournament will benefit all veterans and the Conley Detachment #1477.
BNL’s Matson, Sherrill selected for Top 100
BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence’s Patric Matson and Miley Sherrill have been selected to participate in the 22nd annual Top 100 Underclass Showcase. The event, staged by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association and the IHSAA, is designed for exposure (131 girls and 120 boys) to college basketball coaches from the state and across the nation.
