It’s official: the Slanted Door will not be reopening its flagship location at San Francisco’s historic Ferry Building. Chef and owner Charles Phan confirmed the news on Thursday morning to Eater SF via email, writing in part that the construction costs associated with renovating that space were too high to make a reopening feasible. “I’m sad that after more than 15 years at the Ferry Building, we can’t return,” Phan’s statement reads in part. “We loved being there, but I’m also excited for future projects.”

Oakland’s Convention Center is broke
The company that manages the Oakland Convention Center is out of money and wants the city to bail it out—again. Integrative Services Corporation, or ISC, the long-time operator of the George P. Scotlan Memorial Convention Center, asked Oakland for $1.7 million earlier this year, according to a report recently shared with the City Council.
