Sheetz shows off new Findlay distribution center
FINDLAY — A new northwest Ohio distribution center will hold a key role in Sheetz’s continued expansion. “This is really a strategic location for us,” said Travis Sheetz, president and CEO of the convenience store brand, as he prepared to ceremonially open the 512,318-square-foot Findlay facility with a ribbon cutting Tuesday. “Northwest Ohio is in the center of our future push in terms of new stores — from a Michigan standpoint, continuing to backfill in Ohio, and also pushing out,” he said. The $169 million facility is set to supply all of Ohio’s 140 stores as well as Michigan’s 15. It is also set to be able to take on additional facilities in Michigan and be the main distribution center as the chain expands into Indiana. That new frontier that is planned for 2027. Sheetz officials said the facility could end up supplying more than 200 stores. Pennsylvania-based Sheetz currently has 850 locations in Michigan, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, and North Carolina. The chain offers gas as well as hot and cold food items and drinks. The Findlay distribution center will join two others the company operates in Burlington, N.C., and Claysburg, Pa. Hundreds of restaurants have disappeared as the Dublin-based chain confronts declining sales and works to remove underperforming locations. At the same time, one of Wendy’s largest franchise operators has entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Local Wendy’s expected to remain open despite bankruptcy
Local Wendy’s restaurants are expected to remain open despite a recent bankruptcy filing by one of the chain’s largest franchise operators. “We do not anticipate a disruption to restaurant operations, and Wendy’s goal is to keep as many restaurants open to continue to serve our customers,” Wendy’s officials said. Meritage Hospitality Group, one of the nation’s largest restaurant operators, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the company announced. Documents from the United States Bankruptcy Court in the Western District of Michigan, where the case is being heard, note that Meritage is formally co-guarantor in 12 northwest Ohio Wendy’s. These include locations at 5166 Airport Hwy., 108 E. Main St., 4277 Monroe St., 1859 Laskey Rd., 1410 E. Alexis Rd., and 3124 Monroe St. in Toledo. Conference to help employers turn generational differences to competitive advantage
Some organizations are struggling to navigate a work place where multiple generations collide daily over values, communication styles, and expectations. The Generational Differences in the Workplace Conference is set for 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Perrysburg, inviting business leaders, human resources professionals, and community organizations across the region to explore both the challenges and opportunities of a multigenerational work place. The conference will examine today’s multigenerational work force and provide strategies to improve communication, strengthen leadership, reduce conflict, and increase employee engagement. The program features nationally recognized keynote speaker Tim Elmore, founder of Growing Leaders, along with Willie McKether, president of WLM Cultural Communications and professor of anthropology at the University of Toledo. “For the first time in modern history, as many as five generations are working alongside one another,” Mr. McKether said in a release. “Each generation brings valuable experiences, expectations and ways of communicating.” The goal of the conference, he said, is to help organizations move beyond stereotypes and build work places where those differences become a competitive advantage. Human resources professionals attending the conference may earn 6.5 professional development credit hours. Individual tickets are $225 per person for one

Scott Equity Exchange Co, Gearing Up for Harvest!
With the completion of the “New Bin” as showcased in a previous article this year, Scott Equity Exchange is looking forward to a productive harvest season. With construction complete, General Manager Sadie Litzenberg states, “What excites me about our new bin is that it is the first of a 3-phase outlook of expansion for the co-op. Our long-term plan is to add another 500,000-bushel bin, 40,000-bushel wet bin, and grain dryer as “phase 2”. The final phase will be to demolish the original elevator and uphill pit. Once that is done, we will have room to update the dry fertilizer and chemical building. This new building is just the beginning of a long-term vision from myself and the board members and will take quite a few years. In the meantime, it will mean quicker turn-around times during harvest, separate lines for soybeans and corn, and the obvious extra space for grain to accommodate our vision of Scott Equity Exchange being able to help more growers.
