OCALA, FL (352today.com) – A community is shaped by more than the buildings that line its streets. It’s shaped by the people who build them, the care that goes into the work and the relationships that stand behind each project. For Stentiford Construction, those principles have guided the...

First Avenue Bar & Bistro Opens in Former La Cuisine Space in downtown Ocala
OCALA, FL (352Today.com) – When First Avenue Bar & Bistro was announced, my first thought was immediate: This had to be special. It was taking over the former home of La Cuisine, the French restaurant whose farewell Facebook post was filled with hundreds of comments from locals who had marked birthdays, anniversaries, and ordinary Tuesday nights at its tables. La Cuisine’s chapter had been a meaningful one. The name on the door has changed. The culinary chapter on that corner has not closed.

City Council clears former city attorney to represent developers on Heath Brook rezoning despite past DRI work
OCALA, FL (352Today.com) – In the November 3, 2026, agenda for the Ocala City Council, a letter was attached to agenda item 10a under “General Business” from Robert Batsel Jr., who is a partner at the Ocala firm Gooding, Batsel, Hartley & MacKay, where he focuses on land use, zoning, and real estate development. He previously served as Ocala’s city attorney until late 2022; under Florida Bar Rule 4-1.11 and the Guidelines for Former City Attorneys that city council adopted in 2023, he remains restricted from representing private clients in matters in which he participated “personally and substantially” while working for the city unless council first gives its informed consent.

Ocala waives one-year rezoning pause for commercial tract, second waiver since 2022
OCALA, FL (352today.com) – The City of Ocala’s building code contains a deliberate pause after a rezoning, so the city and neighbors are not immediately asked to reconsider the same land. City council can waive that one-year waiting period with a vote of at least three members. Since January 2022, the city has received only two such requests. It approved both. In both cases, according to City of Ocala Public Information Officer Greg Davis, the minutes show that “no further discussion occurred following staff presentation.”
