OPELOUSAS, La. ( KLFY ) — Filmed right here in Opelousas, Against All Odds was a film created to spread a message of choosing peace over violence. Following the film’s success, director Ej Tyler is gearing up for the release of the film’s sequel.
“I’m very excited, very excited that we can put the gang back together. The storyline has got a little more in depth,” said Tyler.
The first film follows the story of Big E, a man who gets out of prison and decides to dedicate his life to showing the youth of his community that a life of crime is not the way.
“Now we follow the guy that actually killed his brother. We follow his path now to why he has that anger built up, why his mother doesn’t want him doing it is taking a different turn this time and it is mirroring what’s going on around us. So, a lot of people can actually see the lives in that I think,” Tyler explained.
With the film’s inspiring story of redemption, Tyler has been able to involve even more members of his community to build unity and teamwork in his hometown.
“Returning we got none other than our parish president, Mr. Jessie Bellard. Shauna Sias, I didn’t know that Shauna had that rage. Pastor Freeman makes a cameo appearance. Also, we have none other than Chief LeBlanc, he comes in,” Tyler said.
As Against All Odds 2 prepares to be seen on screens all over the country, Tyler and his cast and crew hope their message can resonate in every household.
“You know, not everybody’s going to get it. Not everybody’s going to get it. But if you reach a few people, just one or two people get it, maybe they can touch someone else. So that’s the whole reason for it. As the message is put down, these guys put these guns down, man. You’re hurting your community. You hurt your community. And for what? Nobody wins. Nobody wakes. So that’s what the message is,” said Tyler.
