The Ontario Police Department says two people are dead after a dangerous pursuit, and an officer-involved shooting Sunday morning.

Authorities initially received a call about a disturbance in the 400 block of West Maple Street around 10 a.m.

The caller informed emergency officials that his sister’s ex-boyfriend was parked outside their home, and was threatening to enter the residence if the woman did not come outside.

The male caller informed officers that there had been numerous instances of domestic violence involving the suspect, and he had threatened his sister with a firearm previously.

When officers arrived at the scene, they located the suspect, who had an outstanding warrant, sitting inside his vehicle. Ontario police commanded the suspect to surrender, but he refused telling responders that he did not want to go back to jail.

The man then fled the scene, leading officers on a dangerous pursuit throughout the city. Ontario PD says the suspect was speeding on surface streets and proceeded to drive against traffic on a nearby freeway.

A short time later, the suspect collided with multiple vehicles near the intersection of Grove Avenue and Philadelphia Street. Following the crash, the man fled his vehicle and attempted a carjacking on a passing motorist.

After the failed carjacking, the suspect ran towards the intersection of Cucamonga Avenue and Philadelphia Street with a firearm in his hand. Authorities located the suspect and an officer-involved shooting occurred.

Ontario PD says the suspect received medical attention and was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. Officers say a handgun was recovered at the scene.

The two motorists who were struck during the pursuit were taken to a nearby medical center, where one of the victims succumbed to their injuries. The second motorist was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.

No further details are available about the suspect, or the deceased innocent bystander.

Anyone with more information is asked to contact the Ontario Police Department at 909-986-6711.
