Storm pattern off to a rough and rowdy start
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -The long holiday weekend ahead has been ticketed for heavy weather for more than a week. That expected siege of showers and thundersqualls started on Wednesday afternoon when a line of thundershowers arrived from Cincinnati and grew upscale into thunderstorms. But typical of this spring, those storms quickly blossomed into squalls characterized by torrents of rain( with local street flooding), damaging winds (trees down, power outs) and pelting hail (no doubt some shingle damage and even some dent car hoods). At its peak, doppler radar estimated the winds near 60 miles per hour and hailstones the size of marbles. Of course the storms were highly selective in their targets!
