OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - In only Creighton’s second official NCAA Track season since 1961, redshirt sophomore Tommy Ward has made history becoming the first Jay to compete at an NCAA regional championship. While Ward didn’t qualify for NCAA Championships, running a 1:51.99 in the 800m, just over two seconds shy of advancing, the Tennessee native has already left his mark on the young program.

Nebraska tried to peel a commit away from the Pitt Panthers but they kept him solid after his official visit.

MANITOWOC, Wis. (WFRV) – One Manitowoc County Catholic school recently received a donation to assist with enhancing the school’s soccer program. Roncalli High School received a $9,000 donation from the Fricke family in honor of Connie Zoch, the sister of Charlotte Fricke. The donation from the Zoch Memorial allowed the high school to purchase a Tannoy sound system for the soccer field.

CHICAGO — In its 38th year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, Gatorade today announced Camden Kozeal of Millard South High School is the 2022-23 Gatorade Nebraska Baseball Player of the Year. Kozeal is the second Gatorade Nebraska Baseball Player of the Year to be chosen from Millard South High School.

OMAHA (KMTV) — Creighton men's basketball guard Trey Alexander is returning to the Bluejays for his junior season after testing the NBA waters the past few weeks. The Oklahoma City native made his announcement on Twitter Wednesday night. Alexander averaged 13.6 points per game this past season at CU.

Omaha's squad - just one of two winless clubs in May - looks good on paper but has struggled to close out matches. The difference for Charlotte has been Austin Pack in goal who has filled in incredibly well following Adrían Zendejas' special 2022 season between the sticks. A win for Omaha would snap a four-match winless streak and likely push the Owls above the playoff line, while a Charlotte victory could see the Jacks surpass NCFC at the top of the table.

As we are now on the eve of regionals on the Road to Omaha, I’d like to look back at the College World Series from an historical perspective and an SEC one as well. Let’s be clear, I am from SEC country, and therefore have some biases toward the SEC. I have worked within an SEC athletics program and more specifically within a baseball program. I have followed college baseball for over 20 years and have become somewhat an historian of the game.
