Man accused of fatal shooting in Northeast Nebraska found guilty of lesser charge
CEDAR COUNTY, Neb. (KTIV) - A man who was originally facing a murder charge in Nebraska has been found guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter. On Friday, April 19, a jury found 22-year-old David Phillips Jr. of Louisiana guilty of manslaughter in the death of his co-worker, 31-year-old Israel Matos-Colon. Phillips faces up to 20 years in prison for the charge.

Candidate for South Dakota House of Representatives arrested
ELK POINT, S.D. (KTIV) - A woman on the ballot for South Dakota’s State House of Representatives was arrested in April after a pursuit. Court documents show Robin Schiro of Elk Point, South Dakota is charged with obstructing an officer, jailer, firefighter. Schiro is currently running for District 17 of South Dakota’s State House of Representatives, which covers parts of Union and Clay County. She is running as a Republican candidate.

New conference set to begin play
HARTINGTON — After several months of planning, a new activities conference is set to take the stage. The league is set to begin with the start of the 2024-2025 school year. The newly named Greater Northeast Activities Conference will feature eight area schools — Elkhorn Valley, Hartington-Newcastle, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, Lutheran High Northeast, Neligh-Oakdale, Plainview, Summerland, and West Holt.

HARTINGTON - Wynot traveled to Hartington for the Wildcat Invitational on April 15 with the Lady Blue Devils and Blue Devils both placing sixth in the meet. Bloomfield swept the team titles over Wausa in the girls’ race and Hartington-Newcastle in the boys’ competition 106-85 and 8781 respectively.
