Author of 'Vanished in Vermillion' to speak on famous cold case in Sioux Falls
Lou Raguse, a former reporter in Sioux Falls, will present his book “Vanished in Vermillion” at the Downtown Library on June 26 at 6 p.m. For those interested in tracing one of the South Dakota's most well-known cold cases, Raguse will share excerpts from the original tape that led to the indictment of an innocent person and other materials exposing the investigation's errors. South Dakota man admits fatally shooting 3 people, wounding 2 others
TYNDALL, S.D. (AP) — A South Dakota man has admitted to fatally shooting three people and wounding two others. Francis Lange, 43, on Wednesday entered a plea of guilty but mentally ill to three counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault, KELO-TV reported. Sentencing is scheduled for July 24. Prosecutors are not seeking the death penalty.
Norfolk Post 16 Seniors finish third in Yankton
The Norfolk Auto Center Senior American Legion baseball team finished in a tie for third over the weekend in the 10-team Kyle Mueller Classic in Yankton and Crofton. On Friday, Post 16 defeated Hartington 9-1 and fell to Elk Point-Jefferson, S.D., 8-4. Then on Saturday, the Norfolkans earned wins over Crofton, 9-5 and the Yankton Juniors, 11-6.
Tanagers Earn Hard-Fought Split With Yankton
This past week the Tanagers earned a hard-fought split with Yankton Bucks U10 Travel team. In the opener the Vermillion Tanagers came up just short, as they fell 6-5 to Yankton Bucks U10. Reid Reuvers had two hits and an RBI. Luke Uhl and Sam Quail each had a hit and drove in two RBI's. Braxton Merideth, Brayden Waterbury, and Kypton Wallin added one hit apiece in the loss.

Wakonda Pool Open For The 2023 Season
The Wakonda Swimming Pool is open for the season. The pool opened on Sunday, May 28, the earliest opening date for the pool in recent years. “Usually, it’s early June before we are open,” said Riva Sharples, volunteer coordinator for the pool. “This year, due to the heat of late May and the hard work of our lifeguards, we were able to get the pool open early.”

Kyra Tjeerdsma was the only Gazelle to record multiple hits in the game, while Payton Moser went 1 for 3 and scored the lone run for Yankton.
