OKLAHOMA CITY ( KFOR ) – Oklahoma City Police are investigating after an officer shot and killed an armed man Sunday night.

“It was very dramatic and very sad,” said Bill Parsons, who lives nearby. “Me and my neighbors who knew the people that were involved in this shooting, we’re just sick about it.”

The incident happened in a neighborhood off of Hefner and Rockwell . Parsons told KFOR it’s typically a quiet neighborhood.

“All the driveways and the streets filled up with police cars and sirens and then they were running tape everywhere,” said Parsons.

Oklahoma City Police said they were responding to a domestic call around 8 p.m.

“It was reported prior to the officers arrival that there were shots fired,” said Captain Valerie Littlejohn with OKCPD.

Parsons said he and his wife heard multiple gunshots.

According to Capt. Littlejohn, when officers got to the house on NW 106th Street, they came into contact with an armed man.

“During that confrontation an officer did discharge his firearm striking that individual,” said Capt. Littlejohn.

The man died at the scene. Police told KFOR the incident is still under investigation.

“We’re going to talk to all the witnesses and the officers involved to determine exactly what led up to the shooting,” said Capt. Littlejohn.

Meanwhile neighbors said they’re praying for the family affected.

“We care about this family. So all of the neighbors here, we watch out for each other,” said Parsons. “He was a very nice man and you know, the whole thing is just sad.”

The officer who fired the gunshot has been placed on routine administrative leave while this is under investigation.
