Santa Barbara Environmentalists Join ‘Hands Across the Sand’ to Oppose New Offshore Oil Drilling
Hundreds of environmental advocates gathered at West Beach on Saturday to join hands, voices, and a statewide movement against new offshore oil drilling. “Hands Across the Sand” brought people together in nearly a dozen coastal communities to mark the 50th anniversary of the California Coastal Act, the landmark law protecting coastal resources and guaranteeing public access to the state’s shoreline. The images captured at each location serve as a visual expression of solidarity with one another and in commitment to protecting the health of the ocean. The people of Santa Barbara clasped hands or threw them high in the air for photo ops that struggled to fit everyone lined on the beach in one frame.

A New Season for Ojai
It feels like we’re at the top of the world. After a long drive up dirt roads that twist and turn alongside Sulphur Mountain, we have finally made it to the farm. The view is picturesque with just a sliver of the Pacific peeking through the garden beds filled with tomatoes, cucumbers and berries. The soft sound of chickens clucking can be heard just over the hill while bees buzz nearby. There’s dirt, worms, and so much sun, but it’s hard not to feel romantic about this place at the top of Ojai.
