A Michigan attorney and a hitman were convicted of organizing and carrying out the death of a jewelry store owner , the Oakland County prosecuting attorney announced.
Marco Bisbikis and Roy Larry were found guilty of murder in connection with the 2022 death of 47-year-old Oak Park jeweler Daniel “Hutch” Hutchinson, attorney Karen D. McDonald’s office said in a May 23 news release. Both defendants were also found guilty of conspiracy to commit first-degree premeditated murder, assault with intent to murder, and two counts of felony firearm in connection with the murder.
Bisbikis, Hutchinson’s former attorney, was accused of writing himself into the man’s will and then hiring the hitman to kill him, The Detroit News reported.
Larry was accused of firing the gunshots that ultimately killed Hutchinson , though he repeatedly denied that accusation throughout the trial, Fox2 reported.
Bisbikis’ and Larry’s attorneys did not immediately respond to McClatchy News’ request for comment.
In June 2022, a shooter drove up alongside Hutchinson’s car, while he and his wife were inside, and fired, WXYZ reported.
Two others previously pleaded guilty in connection with Hutchinson’s death, according to the release. Darnell Larry and Angelo Raptoplous pleaded guilty to solicitation to commit murder, per The Detroit News. Darnell Larry is Roy Larry’s cousin, per the outlet.
Darnell Larry, Roy Larry’s cousin, also testified in the trial, according to Fox2. He testified that Bisbikis originally paid Darnell Larry to kill Hutchinson but then he paid Roy Larry to carry out the act, Fox2 reported.
Larry and Bisbikis face life sentences. Sentencing is scheduled for June 12.
Oak Park is about a 14-mile drive northwest of Detroit.
