    Order Of The Eastern Star WV Chapter hosts an Alzheimer’s candlelight walk

    OAK HILL, WV (WVNS) – One of the most common diseases affecting Americans is Alzheimer’s Disease with more than 5 million Americans are living with the disease.

    This includes about 200,000 people under the age of 65.

    One group spent their Friday evening, May 10th, trying to spread awareness about the disease over in Oak Hill.

    More than a dozen members of the West Virginia chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star met at the historic Oak Hill train depot.

    They walked nearly half a mile holding candles and promise garden flowers. Each flower’s color has a special meaning with purple representing the loss of someone to Alzheimer’s disease.

    William Roberts is the worthy grand patron of the organization and he said this walks is not only for a good cause, it’s also personal.

    “Recently, with this year, I’ve lost two aunts to Alzheimer’s. The last one, it was a week yesterday that she passed. So it’s very personal to me”

    Roberts said the end goal for these walks is to one day have everyone walk with white flowers. This represents people who are cured of Alzheimer’s Disease.
