Berne-Knox-Westerlo School Board is taking a ‘helluva gamble’
Unlike village or town budgets or the state budget, New Yorkers vote on school budgets. School taxes are significantly higher than municipal taxes and voters have a say. We’ve written many, many times on this page on the value of supporting school budgets. For parents, the reason is obvious. But for the many taxpayers without children in our public schools the benefits are as practical as maintaining real-estate values and as philosophical as maintaining democracy.
Budget defeat would devastate me and the other students
My name is Henry Gumpper. I am in eighth grade at Berne-Knox-Westerlo and I am very concerned about what will happen if the BKW school budget doesn’t pass. The budget is essential to supporting vital programs that have made a huge difference in my academic performance and my engagement at the school.
