Rock Island Police investigate homicide at apartment building
Police remained on the scene of a homicide investigation in the area of 5th Street and 37th Avenue, Rock Island, on Saturday night. According to a news release, officers responded shortly before 4:45 p.m. to Maple Ridge Apartments on the 3700 block of 5th Street. In a parking lot, police found a 21-year-old man suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Davenport Police find guns, packaged cocaine in residence
A 52-year-old Davenport man was in custody Sunday after Davenport Police allege they found packaged drugs along with two guns in a residence, according to arrest affidavits. James Hawkins Sr. faces felony charges of controlled substance violation (two), failure to affix a drug stamp (two), dominion/control of a firearm/offensive weapon by a felon, and gathering where controlled substances are used, court records show.

Gun found in holding cell while Rock Island-Milan students tour police department
An unloaded gun was discovered Friday in a holding cell during an elementary-student tour of Rock Island Police Department, according to a news release. Shortly before 12:30 p.m. Friday, a group of fifth-grade students from Eugene Field Elementary School were touring Rock Island Police Department. During the tour, Interim Police Chief Tim McCloud said students were allowed to step inside a holding cell, where one of them pushed on a pillow and felt the presence of a handgun hidden inside, the release says.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) - The Rock Island Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting at the Maple Ridge apartment complex on Saturday. Police responded to the scene at 4:43 p.m. to a call of a gunshot victim inside the apartment complex in the 3700 block of 5th Street. Upon arrival, officers found a 21-year-old man in the parking lot suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. The victim was taken to UnityPoint Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.
