NUTLEY, NJ - In the wake of the $7 million budget shortfall, a State Monitor was assigned to assume fiscal control of the Nutley Public School district.

Makus is a retired County Business Administrator, most recently working in the Passaic and Bergen County Executive Business Offices.

According to a statement from Nutley Superintendent of Schools Kent Bania, "She will work closely with the Superintendent and the Board of Education and will actively be in the district and at our Board of Education meetings moving forward."

"We would like to welcome Ms. Makus to the Nutley community." Bania added.

The monitor will oversee the fiscal (business office side) of the Nutley Public School district. The "state takeover" as this situation has been categorized on social media has nothing to do with academics. In the latest US. News ranking of schools in NJ, Nutley moved up 11 places on the list.
