NORWICH, Conn. — The Norwich Fire Department responded to a call reporting cries for help near Indian Leap Falls.

When they arrived on scene, they found a 57-year-old man stranded approximately 100 feet off the footpath and 30 feet down a steep cliff.

Crews assembled a mainline and belay rope system then descended to the man’s location. Despite being uninjured, the man was unable to climb back up. The crews then secured him with a harness and initiated a haul system to lift him to safety.

In just over eight minutes, the rescue mission was accomplished, with both the man and rescuer safely back on solid ground. The man was evaluated by American Ambulance but declined further medical attention.
