Former students remember Akron counselor found stabbed to death inside home
AKRON, Ohio — Akron's east side community is mourning the loss of a counselor who has worked in the city's school district for nearly 30 years. Fifty-nine-year-old Courtney Jones-Hunter was one of two victims found stabbed inside a Goodyear Heights home when police arrived on scene for a reported domestic dispute Wednesday afternoon. Jones-Hunter was pronounced dead, while first responders transported a 74-year-old man to Summa Health Akron City Hospital. He is currently in stable condition.

BARBERTON: A Fairview Avenue woman reported to police April 30 that someone took her backpack containing a computer from inside her unlocked vehicle the night before. Police were called to a West Hopocan Avenue home April 30 for a report of a disturbance. A woman told police a man jumped her as she had a cut between her eyes and a red mark on her arm. A warrant for assault was issued for the man and on May 7, he turned himself in.
Firefighters rescue 2 dogs from burning Akron home
AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) - Akron firefighters saved the lives of two dogs trapped inside a burning home alone while their owner was away. The Akron Division of Fire was called to the two-story house fire in the 1500 block of Newcastle Circle at 6:33 p.m. on May 8, Lt. Joel Price stated.

WEST AKRON: On April 29, police responded to a fight at a location on South Hawkins Avenue where a woman reported she had an argument with another woman. As the two were leaving the scene in their vehicles, the woman exited her vehicle and sprayed pepper-spray in the other woman’s face, causing her to hit the gas pedal of her vehicle and crash into a vehicle driven by a third woman. The suspect then used a brick to smash the window of the victim’s vehicle and left before the arrival of police. Police spoke to the victim and the driver of the third vehicle and signed a warrant for the arrest of the suspect for assault and criminal damaging.
