    Former factory employee accused of stealing coworker's truck

    Northumberland, Pa. — A former employee at Bimbo Bakeries in Northumberland is accused of returning to the business and stealing a coworker's truck just days after he was terminated.

    Shane Stephen Hobbs, 34, of Selinsgrove, allegedly went to the factory property the morning of April 30 and took a Chevrolet Trailblazer truck without permission. Officer Matthew Lauver of Northumberland police department says he was dispatched to Bimbo Bakeries shortly after 9 a.m. for a report of a stolen vehicle. Hobbs was seen a short time before that driving the truck on Fifth Street, according to the affidavit filed by Lauver.

    When Lauver arrived, Hobbs was backing out of the employee parking area on Fifth Street. Hobbs then pulled back into the parking stall and got out of the truck to speak with Lauver. When Lauver asked Hobbs who owns the truck, Hobbs replied he owned it, according to the affidavit. Several other employees came to the area, including the truck owner, who told police the truck belonged to him. Hobbs eventually admitted the took the truck and drove it without permission.

    Lauver found out that Hobbs had been terminated from Bimbo Bakeries on April 27. Hobbs was not to return to the Bimbo property.

    Hobbs was charged with felony theft by unlawful taking, misdemeanor unauthorized use of motor vehicle, and defiant trespass. Hobb's preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 7 at the office of District Judge Rachel Wiest-Benner in Sunbury.
