The Northfield High School Knowledge Bowl program qualified for its seventh consecutive state competition Feb. 29 in Rochester during the Southeast Regional competition.

Knowledge Bowl competitions are interdisciplinary academic contests designed for students in grades 7-12. During the contest, teams of students compete in written and oral rounds by answering questions related to all areas of learning typical of secondary education programs. Questions test students’ recall, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.

Currently over 800 teams from 290 Minnesota school districts participate in senior high knowledge bowl competitions. At the end of the season, teams compete in sub-region and region tournaments with a total of 48 teams advancing to the State Knowledge Bowl meet in Brainerd, April 11th and 12th.

At the regional competition, Northfield took first and third place and qualified to advance to state competition. Northfield is one of the only schools that will send more than one team this year.

State qualifiers are seniors Lilith Brunelle, Braiden Dietz, Gabriel Fisher Navarro, Jackson Hessian, Allie Hoffert, Quinn Lovick, Miles Martig, Cricket Mohring and Hal Shuffelton, and junior Will Flannery.
