Clarinda council reaches compromise on Indaclar street closure request
(Clarinda) -- To help recoup some of the costs of police officers monitoring the event, Clarinda officials have implemented a fee to close off part of a street dance. During its regular meeting Wednesday evening, the Clarinda City Council unanimously approved a request to block off West Washington Street from 16th to 17th Streets for a street dance in front of Indaclar Bar from 4 p.m. on August 17th to 2 a.m. on August 18th for a $200 permit fee. Indaclar Manager Cera Sams outlined the plans for the 21-year-old-and-older event, including musical entertainment and alcoholic beverages for individuals with the appropriate wristbands throughout the evening until around 1 a.m. While they have not charged a fee for similar events in the past, since it is for-profit and involves alcohol, the council had tabled action at its last meeting to explore a potential fee. Clarinda Mayor Craig Hill says he looked into similar fees throughout the region and state.
