NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Northampton residents were able to tour what will soon be a space designed to help better serve the community’s needs on Wednesday.

The former First Baptist Church on Main Street is being converted into the ‘Northampton Community Resilience Hub.’

The Hub will be a multi-use space, that would include a day canter, emergency shelter, and even a community kitchen. It will also be available to support residents in the event of a climate or public health emergency.

Commissioner of the Northampton Department of Health and Human Services, Merridith O’Leary told 22News, “One of its core functions is connecting people where they are at with the resources that we need. So for the past two years in collaboration with our partners, we have been trying to identify ‘who is doing what?’ and what the gaps might be, and hopefully bring that here for the people.”

Wednesday night, the Northampton Mayor’s office held a second meeting at Edwards Church to get residents more familiar with the project. The next meeting is slated for Wednesday, June 5th starting at 6 p.m.
