NORTH SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — A brush fire pushed right up against I-81, on May 6.

The incident forced a ramp to close around 3:40 p.m. that day while North Syracuse firefighters led team of departments putting out the fire.

It took multiple hours, to put out the fire. According to the Assistant North Syracuse Fire Chief, it wasn’t out until just before 7 p.m.

The Assistant Chief also says a DOT contractor tried to use a water truck to put out the fire, but was unsuccessful.

The assistant chief added that the fire was caused by a worker trying to remove a section of guardrail.
