WIAA Football Playoffs: Waterford falls short in upset bid at No. 1 overall seed Pewaukee

PEWAUKEE – After a hard-fought upset bid fizzled out in the fourth quarter, underclassmen on the Waterford Union High School football team formed two lines in the end zone. Waterford’s senior class then went through the lines, hugging each teammate before embracing their coaches at the end. It was a somber final scene for a group accomplished notable feats and powered through painful lows.

Oconomowoc, Palmyra-Eagle voters reject school referendums; other suburban Milwaukee districts OK theirs

Voters in six suburban Milwaukee school districts on Nov. 3 approved referendums providing additional funding of over $300 million. But voters in two school districts – Oconomowoc and Palmyra-Eagle – rejected their referendums. In the Whitefish Bay School District, the second time was the charm, as voters approved a $90 million facilities referendum, after rejecting a larger proposal in April. Voters in the Brown Deer, Elmbrook, Fox Point-Bayside, Greenfield and Swallow school districts also passed referendums Nov. 3. Brown Deer School District voters approve operational and capital referendums Operational referendum Yes: 2,985, 51.23% No: 2,842, 48.77% Capital referendum Yes: 3,025, 52.26% No: 2,763, 47.74% The district will receive $2.8 million annually for five years, starting in the 2026-27 school year and ending in the 2030-31 school year, for a total of $14 million, for operational expenses. The district also will receive $35 million for districtwide facility upgrades, energy efficiency and accessibility, as well as renovations at Brown Deer Middle/High School, including to classrooms, the auditorium, pool and locker rooms and site improvements such as replacing the track and field turf. The estimated tax impact is an increase of 92 cents per $1,000 of property value in school taxes, since both

Small Wisconsin school district to dissolve after voters reject referendum

(The Center Square) – The Hustisford School District, in eastern Wisconsin, is going away. Wisconsin’s School District Boundary Appeal Board on voted to dissolve the district. It is the first time since 1990 board agreed to close a school district. Hustisford has just 238 students in the entire district and has been losing students for years. The school district asked voters for a $4 million referendum in April, but it failed. Quickly after the election, Hustisford Schools then began the process of shutting down. The vote was the final step. Wisconsin's state superintendent blamed a lack of money, and how the entire state of Wisconsin pays for schools for the shutdown. "The Hustisford School District is a casualty of decades of an antiquated, broken school funding formula that has failed to keep pace with the costs of educating our children," State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly said in a statement. But Hustisford Schools were spending about the state's average per student. Budget numbers show Hustisford's budget was more than $6 million per year and show that the school spends about $22,000 per student. That's more than Wisconsin's state average of nearly $18,000 per student. Hustisford is in rural Dodge County, and
