NORTH HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying numerous suspects caught on camera shoplifting.

Investigators say there have been many incidents in recent days, with thousands of dollars worth of goods stolen.

Police released photos with suspects appearing to steal a cart full of laundry detergent, a handful of boxes, and other miscellaneous items.

The video below is from News 8 at 6 p.m. on May 6.

According to officers, the thefts are all separate incidents and have been happening mostly at the Home Depot and Dick’s Sporting Goods on Universal Drive, as well as Big Y on Washington Avenue. Police said $8,000 worth of product was gone in a matter of days.

“I guess I’m not really surprised. I owned a business for a while, a gift shop and little things often left with people,” said Bill Walker, shopper. “I expect with the current economy; it’s gotten worse than before.”

First Selectman Michael Freda said he is acting quickly.

“We’re increasing patrols, we have a police car presence down there on a regular basis, and we’re going to be seeing more and more police cars patrolling those areas,” said Freda.

Freda said he has a stern message for shoplifters and those who are thinking of stealing.

“We will catch you, we will arrest you, and you will be prosecuted,” said Freda. “That’s my message to both our citizens and prospective criminals that want to come into North Haven.”

North Haven police are asking anyone who may recognize the suspects, or has any additional information to contact them at 203-239-5321. Callers can remain anonymous.
