Live nativity in Blackfoot draws over 4,000 people
BLACKFOOT — More than 4,000 people visited Blackfoot’s live nativity held at Jensen Grove this past weekend. The event, organized by the Greater Blackfoot Chamber of Commerce, was held last Saturday and Sunday nights and attracted people from throughout East Idaho. “We figured we had between 4,100 and 4,200 people,” said lead organizer Cindy Reese about the attendance. “That’s as best as we could count.” Reese said the Blackfoot live nativity has been held every other year for the past 40 years. She took over as lead organizer a couple of years ago after the last live nativity. “I know we had a lot less people last time than what we did this year,” Reese said. Reese said it rained all day Saturday, but the rain stopped just in time for the live nativity. It didn’t keep people from coming, and they still were willing to wait in line. “Saturday night was beautiful,” Reese said. “It was cold, but it was a beautiful night. We still had really long lines.” The best part about the live nativity was watching all the families who visited make memories. Someone commented that people usually don’t remember what gifts they receive, but they do

Craving a gyro or old-school fries? The Works Deli & Grill is the spot
POCATELLO — Gyros are one of my favorite comfort foods and have become hard to find in Pocatello. So, when I was driving down Chubbuck Road and caught sight of a giant photo of gyros plastered across the window at The Works Deli & Grill, I hit the brakes, swung in and knew this would be my next East Idaho Eats stop. The manager, Ty Ranere, was happy to oblige, along with his father, Geoff Ranere, the founder of The Works. And yes, they started me off with the traditional gyro I’d been craving. It did not disappoint. It was super messy, exactly as a proper gyro should be, loaded with tender mea...

Local metal band Godbone writes songs to let the darkness out
POCATELLO — Their riffs are fierce. Their screams are guttural. Their lyrics are explicit. But at the end of the day, members of the Pocatello/Idaho Falls metal band Godbone say they’re just a bunch of goofballs playing the music they love. “It just so happens people around us kind of like what we like,” said band member Sam Page. “And it’s been just a fun rollercoaster that hasn’t hit the down or the up or whatever. It’s all in the ‘we’ phase right now, and that’s how we want to keep it going.” “Like Sam said, we just wanted to make music we liked, and that our friends liked as well,” said Ma...
