Highway crash kills 1, sends 4 to hospital
One person has died, four other people hospitalized, following a head-on crash on Highway 101 in Coos County. Oregon State Police (OSP) responded to a three-vehicle crash on Highway 101, near milepost 250, at approximately 4:35 p.m. May 13. Coos County man dies while serving sentence in state prison
An Oregon Department of Corrections (DOC) adult in custody, Michael Brent Currie, passed away May 9, 2024. Currie was incarcerated at Oregon State Penitentiary (OSP) in Salem and passed away at the institution. As with all in-custody deaths, the Oregon State Police have been notified, and the State Medical Examiner will determine cause of death. Currie entered DOC custody on March 15, 2022, from Coos County with an earliest release date of June 14, 2024. Currie was 70 years old. DOC takes all in-custody deaths seriously. The agency is responsible for the care and custody of approximately 12,000 individuals who are incarcerated in 12 institutions across the state. While crime information is public record, DOC elects to disclose only upon request out of respect for any family or victims.
CBPD searching for a missing elderly Coos Bay man
The Coos Bay Police Department (CBPD) is searching for a missing elderly Coos Bay man. The CBPD is searching for 88-year-old Edward "Ed" Warren Frederickson, who goes by “Ed”, who was reported missing on May 27, 2024. Mr. Frederickson is described as a white male of around 5'10", weighing 160 pounds, with gray hair and blue eyes. He is commonly seen wearing a fedora hat and a suit-style jacket. Mr. Frederickson's last contact with friends or family was on May 24, 2024. Since Mr. Frederickson was reported missing, his vehicle was found unoccupied by family on May 28, 2024, in the Empire area of Coos Bay. The CBPD asks that anyone with information about Mr. Frederickson's disappearance call the CBPD at 541-269-8911, Ext. 1, or Coos Stop Crime at 541-267-6666. Tips can be made anonymously.
