North Beach House Fire Deemed Electrical
NORTH BEACH, Md. – Fire and emergency personnel responded to a house fire in the 4000 block of 4th Street at 2:44 p.m. on May 2, 2024. Upon arrival, crews discovered an outside fire on the rear deck that had extended into the house. Firefighters from Engine 11 initiated an attack from the rear of the structure and advanced a line into the house to contain any further extension of the fire. Additional crews assisted on the scene, providing ladders, ventilation, and overhaul.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Maryland officials on Wednesday approved more than $3 million in compensation for a Baltimore man who spent 31 years in prison on a wrongful murder conviction. Gov. Wes Moore apologized to Gary Washington during a Board of Public Works meeting where the compensation was approved. “On the behalf of the entire state, I’m sorry for the failure of the justice system,” Moore said, adding that while no amount can make up for the injustice, he prayed the state could provide compensation “in a way that your family deserves.” Washington was a 25-year-old new father when he was convicted in 1987 of first-degree murder and a gun crime in the fatal shooting of Faheem Ali the year before.
