Somerset Borough area will close for 4 hours Tuesday morning because of failed water valve
An older 6-inch valve coming off of the 12-inch main water line along East Main Street leading back to Walnut Street has failed. That section of the water main from Somerset Borough's substation just below Sheetz on East Main Street to Highland Park will have to be shut down from 5 a.m. until 9 a.m. Tuesday during the valve's repair, according to Roger Bailey, administrative assistant to Borough Manager Michele Enos. Residents and businesses along that street will not have water during the repair, Bailey said.

Volunteers raise more than 300 flags to honor veterans at a Westmoreland County cemetery
Around 100 volunteers helped raise flags at a Westmoreland County cemetery to honor veterans. It’s the 30th year volunteers gathered at the West Newton Cemetery to raise the West Newton Avenue Flags. “We started in 1994 with about half as many flags, but today we have 385 full-sized flags all in memory of a deceased veteran,” Stacey Federoff said. The event is a generational affair, with everyone from Boy Scouts to men who are veterans themselves pitching in.
