Track and field: Niwot sophomore stars stay centered in success
LAKEWOOD — Niwot sophomores Addy Ritzenhein and Rocco Culpepper are the children of former Olympic runners — but they say that’s not the focus in their households. Through two days at the state track and field meet, the 16-year-olds have added to their own running legacies — and yet they still refuse to make it their entire identity.

LAKEWOOD — As Broomfield senior Diego Estebanes sped down the final 100 meters of the last Class 5A 300-meter hurdles race of his high school career, it appeared as though he would end the event with a gold medal in hand. But in the final few meters, Fountain Fort-Carson’s...

Recent Colorado commit Rashad Amos predicted to flip schools again
Recent Colorado football commit Rashad Amos could soon pull off the rare offseason double-flip. As reported by On3 Friday morning, the 6-foot-2, 234-pound running back visited Ole Miss earlier this week and is currently projected to land with the Rebels. Amos, who played at Miami-OH last season before entering the transfer portal, was committed to Mississippi State for about two weeks before committing to the Buffs on April 26. If Amos does commit to Ole Miss, it would represent the fifth college program of his college career. South Carolina housed Amos from 2020-22, although he only played in 13 total games with the Gamecocks. Amos enjoyed a breakout season at Miami-Ohio this past season, rushing for 1,075 yards and 13 touchdowns on 210 carries. Colorado picks up long snapper from transfer portal
Longtime Arizona Wildcats long snapper Kameron Hawkins announced Saturday that he’ll continue his college football career with the Colorado Buffaloes. Hawkins spent the past four years in Tucson but played sparingly, seeing game action only twice since 2022. The 5-foot-11, 220-pound California native entered the portal in April just prior to Arizona’s spring game. Coming out of Orange Lutheran High School, Hawkins was the fifth-ranked long snapper in the 2020 recruiting class. Colorado watched fellow long snapper Cameron Warchuck enter the transfer portal and commit to Washington earlier this offseason, giving Hawkins a clear path to playing time next fall. If he does become the Buffs’ No. 1 long snapper, Hawkins will play a key role in the success of Mark Vassett, who should be one of the Big 12’s top punters next season. Let’s get to work! IMG Academy DB places Colorado in top six schools
After taking an unofficial visit to Boulder earlier this spring, class of 2025 IMG Academy defensive back Major Preston Jr. placed Colorado among his final six schools on Saturday. Colorado joined Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, Florida, Ole Miss, and Missouri as Preston’s top options. He currently has official visits set with Florida (June 7), Ole Miss (June 14) and Virginia Tech (June 21). Preston plans on announcing his commitment on July 1, per On3. The 6-foot-2 prospect played cornerback and safety for IMG Academy this past season as a junior, having transferred as a two-way player from Hopewell High School in Virginia. Preston is currently ranked as a three-star cornerback by the 247Sports composite, though his rankings vary between outlets based on whether or not they consider him a safety or a cornerback. CU football head coach Deion Sanders has thrived in recruiting prospects from the hotbed that is IMG Academy, so Preston could certainly be next in line. where’s home ? 👀 https://t.co/hkS0MFvC8M — Major Preston Jr (@MajorPreston7) May 18, 2024 Contact/Follow us @BuffaloesWire on X (Twitter), and like our page on Facebook for ongoing coverage of Colorado news, notes and opinions.
