MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va. (WTRF) – Several areas of the Northern Panhandle, along with other parts of the Mountain State, are still feeling the effects of the severe weather event that took place last month.

Officials have been collecting information and talking to residents for the consideration of a disaster declaration as a result of those events.

“They were doing assessments in Ohio County, Wetzel County and Marshall County. They have four other counties in West Virginia they have to do assessments with. They will collect that information. They will put that all together and determine between the State EMA and also FEMA whether the numbers are there for a potential federal disaster declaration.”

Tom Hart, Director, Marshall County Emergency Management

Marshall County Emergency Management Director Tom Hart says they hope to learn the status of the possible declaration within the next couple of weeks.

A separate disaster declaration was recently approved for a weather event that took place on April 2 through the 6.
