    UPDATE: Power restored for hundreds across Central Illinois

    CENTRAL ILLINOIS (WCIA) — After widespread power outages swept thousands of households in Illinois Friday evening, service has been restored for most.

    Nearly 1,000 Vermilion County residents experienced power outages Friday evening — a number that is now down to just 2. As of Saturday, outages in Illinois as a whole amount to just 159.

    One larger outage remains in the Springfield area, with 62 customers without service, according to the Ameren Outage Map .

    CENTRAL ILLINOIS (WCIA) — Outage reports in Vermilion, Macon and Sangamon Counties continue to go down as Ameren crews restore power.

    As of 8 p.m., the number of people without power are down to 20 in each county, with outages centered in Rossville, Decatur and Bradforton.

    Update at 4:30 p.m.

    CENTRAL ILLINOIS (WCIA) — Outage reports in Vermilion County — and across Illinois as a whole — have decreased significantly.

    As of around 4:30 p.m., only 213 customers in Vermilion County are still without power. In Illinois, less 1,739 are experiencing power outages — down about half the amount from just an hour ago.

    CENTRAL ILLINOIS (WCIA) — The number of outages for Vermilion County has increased to nearly 900.

    As of 4:13 p.m., the Ameren outage map shows that there are 891 active reports of outages in Vermilion County.

    Update at 3:50 p.m.

    CENTRAL ILLINOIS (WCIA) — Some Central Illinois residents are starting to get power back amid the wave of Friday afternoon storms.

    According to the Ameren outage map , service has been restored for customers in the Newman area. In Vermilion County, however, 716 are still experiencing the outages.

    Across Illinois, 2,239 are still without service.

    CENTRAL ILLINOIS (WCIA) — As storms sweep across Central Illinois Friday afternoon, nearly 2,000 are experiencing power outages.

    According to the Ameren outage map , beginning at 2:32 p.m. near Newman, 1,162 customers are without power. There isn’t yet an estimate for when power will be restored in that area and the specific cause of the outage is undetermined.

    Near Rossville, 710 customers have been left without power since 2:10 p.m. This area’s outage was caused by fallen tree damage. There is not yet an estimate for when the power will be restored.

    Among other areas in Central Illinois experiencing smaller-scale outages is Decatur with 62 reports.

    Across Illinois, 3,589 total customers are currently without power, according to Ameren.
