CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — The Harrison County Community Educational Outreach Service (CEOS) held its yearly collection drive on Tuesday to benefit those who stay at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., people from around the region stopped by the Harrison County Recreation Complex to drop off toiletries, entertainment items and snacks for patients who stay at the center.

Veterans often come to the medical center for routine checkups, but then find out they need more care. These veterans might not be from the area, and so providing toiletries and entertainment gives them and their families one less thing to worry about. The snacks are for patients who need to make the drive up to Pittsburgh to receive care.

CEOS President Carolyn Romine said that this year the organization has done around 38,000 hours of volunteer work. She said that the CEOS will be donating around $10,000 worth of items from Tuesday’s collection drive that they’ve done “every year for the last 20 years.”

Romine also said that the CEOS will do another collection drive for the veterans in the fall and that the organization has made scarves for them in the past.
