    IDENTIFIED: Coroner names teen recovered from Merced River

    MERCED COUNTY, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – The Merced County Sheriff’s Office Coroner has identified the teenager who was recovered from the Merced River on Sunday.

    The coroner identified the teen as Jagdeep Singh Riar. Deputies say the 17-year-old went missing Saturday, May 11, after going kayaking in the river . Dive crews had been searching since then in hopes of finding him.

    Body believed to be missing teen recovered in Merced County river, deputies say

    Deputies say the Merced County Sheriff’s Office Water Rescue and Recovery Team responded a mile downstream from Hagaman Park on the Merced River on Sunday afternoon and recovered Riar.

    “Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with Jagdeep’s family during this difficult time,” says the Merced County Sheriff’s Office.

    On May 13th, the Sheriff ordered the closure of the Merced River and the San Joaquin River for recreational use until further notice.
