CHARLOTTE HARBOR — A new disaster canteen vehicle for the region is being celebrated.

At a recent Volunteer Appreciation Dinner, The Salvation Army, Charlotte County Corps., honored people and groups who help “bring hope” to Charlotte and DeSoto counties through their efforts, according to a news release.

During it, a ribbon cutting was held for the Disaster Canteen vehicle.

The Salvation Army’s Israel Roseno and the Charlotte Community Foundation‘s Gayle Ross did the cutting. The foundation worked with The Salvation Army for the vehicle.

The Salvation Army also praised the support of the Charlotte Harbor Rotary.

“Israel Roseno thanked and recognized all the volunteers that donated hundreds of hours to make the Salvation Army a place of hope for all those in need in Charlotte and DeSoto counties,” the press release stated.

The event took place April 3 at Charlotte County Event Center.

Guest speakers included Punta Gorda Chamber of Commerce President John Wright along with Salvation Army’s Bobby and Anne Westmoreland from USA Southern Territory. Also speaking was Salvation Army Advisory Board Chairman Stephen Carter, who gave opening remarks. Carter is a past-president of Charlotte Harbor Rotary.

“Thanks to the Charlotte Community Foundation for partnering with the (Salvation) Army to purchase this outstanding new vehicle to serve our community,” it stated.
