Kicking off soggy weekend…again; flash flooding remains a concern
By Bradley Wells,
Friday begins drier with some sunshine but clouds are on the increase. By mid-morning scattered showers return from west to east. Temps aren’t hurt much with the mid 70s for afternoon highs. Showers and an isolated t-storm is likely for the late afternoon and early evening.
Turning to Friday evening, heavy rain and thunderstorm downpours can be expected well into the night through Saturday morning. Localized heavy rain can lead to pooling and runoff issues especially for poor drainage areas. We saw that on Thursday in Summers County. Creeks and rivers, so far, are still in good shape but it wouldn’t be a bad idea to keep and eye on them during and after a heavy rain event.
Saturday showers remain most of the morning and early afternoon. Temps still manage to warm into the mid and upper 70s with breezy southwest winds in control. Late afternoon and evening, showers begin to fade with high pressure trying to move in. Saturday night scattered showers still possible with the last bits of moisture working their way out.
Sunday morning, showers remain from Saturday’s system but the general trend is clearing skies. By the afternoon only a handful of showers continue to filter out. Sunshine tries to peek through broken clouds helping afternoon highs push into the mid 70s. High pressure works in late to help clear skies for the overnight hours dropping temps back into the low to mid 50s.
Monday sunshine will be with us all day with a few fair weather clouds floating harmlessly by. Temps move quickly from the 50s into the 70s by the afternoon. A comfy day to dry out from such a soggy pattern the last few days.
Tuesday begins with sunshine but clouds are on the increase. By the mid-afternoon, scattered showers move back in to the region. Broken in nature, those towards the east will have a drier Tuesday than those towards the west. Highs won’t be hurt as we warm into the upper 70s.
In your extended forecast we’re soggy again as a few systems push in one after another. With some dry time between flooding concerns look to remain low. However, with multiple soggy days ahead, standing water and muddy grounds leading to mud/rock slides may be possible.
