    Man whose vehicle was found in the Chimney Tops overlook area found safe

    GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WATE) — The man who park rangers were searching for after he was last seen near the Chimney Tops Overlook area of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park has been found safe, according to the park.

    On Thursday, the park shared that Timothy Cook, 62, was last seen near the Chimney Tops overlook on Sunday, May 12. His vehicle was found unoccupied in the Chimney Tops overlook parking area on May 14.

    Friday afternoon, the GSMNP released that Cook was found safe that morning within the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

    “Thank you to those who participated in the search and provided information to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park Tip Line,” the park wrote.

    According to the park, Cook has black hair, a white beard and brown eyes. He is 5’10” tall and weighs 190 pounds. Previously, anyone who saw him or had information about his whereabouts was asked to contact the park:
