GREENE COUNTY, Mo. – A high-speed chase through Greene County into Dade County ended on Dade County Road 235 Tuesday evening.

According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO), deputies attempted to stop a driver because he was driving erratically and believed to be impaired in the Ash Grove area. They located the black car on Highway 160 and attempted a traffic stop.

The driver, 71-year-old Danny Carnett of Springfield, refused to stop and brake-checked a deputy’s patrol vehicle. He then sped off, reaching speeds of up to 90-100 miles per hour, failing to maintain a single lane and making dangerous passes on blind corners, according to the probable cause statement.

The driver continued through a barbed-wire fence, colliding with another deputy’s vehicle, then continuing across a field before cutting through another fence to get to another road.

Several Greene County Sheriff’s deputies chased the car down a gravel road near FF Highway east of Everton in Dade County, eventually stopping the driver when he lost control driving through yet another barbed-wire fence.

Carnett was arrested and charged with resisting arrest, property damage, and operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner.

Carnett is currently in the Greene County Jail being held on a $25,000 bond.
