IRS announces tax relief for Ohio tornado victims

DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — The Internal Revenue Service has announced a new tax deadline for taxpayers affected by recent tornado outbreaks in Ohio.

For individuals and businesses affected by tornadoes that began on March 14, the tax deadline is now Sept. 3.

This comes after the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) issued a disaster declaration . Individuals and businesses that are located in Auglaize, Crawford, Darke, Delaware, Hancock, Licking, Logan, Mercer, Miami, Richland and Union counties qualify for tax relief.

The declaration permits the IRS to postpone certain tax-filing and tax-payment deadlines for taxpayers in the disaster area. This new Sept. 3 deadline applies to tax returns and payments normally due on April 15.
