    Lamar County voters reject bond for 3 new schools

    LAMAR COUNTY, Miss. ( WHLT ) – Lamar County voters rejected a bond that would help build three new schools.

    Lamar County Schools Superintendent Steven Hampton said the bond needed 60% approve in order to pass.

    Federal student loan interest rates highest in more than a decade

    The unofficial election results showed 53.82% of voters in favor of the bond issue, while 46.18% were against it.

    The proposed bond extension would have help construction a new Sumrall High School, Oak Grove Middle School and Purvis High School. Officials said those facilities are getting older.

    Hampton said the school district will go back to the drawing board to draft another proposed bond.
