OAK PARK, Ill. — If you live in the western suburbs, here’s your chance to win some money off of this year’s cicada invasion.

The Western Cook County Illinois Convention and Visitors Bureau is holding a contest to see who can snap the best pictures of the cicadas that have emerged across Illinois this summer.

The contest has three categories: most colorful picture, most cicadas in one picture and best action shot. Winners will each receive a $100 gift card.

The contest will begin May 15 and run through June 19.

“Whether you’re excited or dreading their return, cicadas will soon be everywhere, said Annie Coakley, Executive Director/CEO of Visit Oak Park. “We’re viewing their arrival as a fun opportunity to get people out of the city and into Chicago’s beautiful western suburbs and neighboring Cook County Forest Preserves. We’re excited to see people enjoy the nature and explore the communities just outside city lines.”
